Who is this course for
This course is suitable for those who want to obtain the BCS Certificate in Commercial Awareness and learn about the investigation, modelling and improvement of business processes.
It is suitable for those currently working wholly or partly as Business Analysts who have a specific interest in commercial/financial projects.
Purpose of the course
This course is aimed at individuals who would like to achieve the BCS Certificate in Commercial Awareness, a knowledge-based specialism module for the BCS Diploma in Business Analysis.
You will learn how to
Candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Organisational Behaviours in the following areas:
- Organisational Principles including delivering value, structure, budgets, jobs, management and rules.
- Operating models including structures and boundaries.
- Organisational motivation, behaviour and culture
- Group formation, dynamics and networks.
- Principles of financial reporting including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow, costing and pricing.
- Project finance including costs and benefits, payback, discounted cash flow and internal rate of return.
Prerequisites
There are no specific pre-requisites for this course, however delegates are expected to be working or have worked in a Business Analysis role or similar.It will also be advantageous if delegates have a specific interest in and some previous knowledge of commercial/financial projects.

- Define the elements and usage of the Boston Consulting Group's matrix.
- Define the performance measures and usage of the Balanced Business Scorecard.
- Define the elements of specified cultural analysis approaches.
- Explain the different management structures and their characteristics.
- Define the different architectures that may be adopted by organisations.
Additional Exam Information
The exam is taken on the final afternoon of the course.
The format of the examination is a one-hour closed-book multiple-choice examination consisting of 40 questions. Candidates need to achieve a minimum of 26 marks out of 40 to pass the examination.
A basic calculator may be used during the exam (not a mobile phone).
As this is an exam-based course, attendees will be asked to complete around 1 hour of homework during the course. This homework is optional and is intended only to increase the chances of passing the exam.

The syllabus for this course and exam refers to the BCS publication Finance for IT Decision Makers (Third Edition). It is strongly recommended that delegates purchase and familiarise themselves with chapters 1,2,5,6,11 & 12 of this book before attending the course.The BCS reading text is not included in the course fee and delegates should obtain their own copy in order to complete the pre-reading.
